Verbatim is operated by Ben Gladwell. This policy covers verbatim.video and app.verbatim.video.

The short version: we collect what is needed to run the service and nothing extra. We do not sell your data, we do not run advertising, we do not build profiles from viewer activity, and we do not use your videos to train models.

What we collect

Account information. Your name, email address, and a hashed password. If you were invited to watch a video, we hold the email address you were invited at until you claim the invitation, the invitation is withdrawn, or the video is deleted.

Sign-in records. We record sign-in counts, timestamps, and the IP addresses used to sign in. We use this information for account security.

Your videos. The video files you upload, plus technical metadata such as duration and dimensions, and the poster and preview images we generate from them.

Transcripts. The text of what is said in your videos, with speaker labels and timings, plus any speaker names you enter.

Sharing information. Which videos you have shared and with which email addresses.

Purchase records. Which tier you bought for which video, the amount, and the date. Card details are handled entirely by our payment processor and never reach our servers.

Delivery logs. Our content delivery network records requests for video files. Those records include information normally found in a web request, such as the date and time, IP address, requested file, browser information, and number of bytes served. We use them to count delivery against a video’s included allowance. We do not build viewer profiles or per-person watch histories from them, and no view counts or viewer analytics are shown to anyone.

Why we collect it

To run your account, host and play your videos, produce transcripts, deliver videos only to the people you chose, take payment, meter delivery against the tier you bought, email you about your account and your videos, and respond to legal requests and copyright complaints. That is the full list.

Who else processes it

We use service providers to host the application and video files, transcribe audio, process payments, send email, deliver video, and serve website assets. They receive only the information needed to do those jobs.

The audio from your videos is sent to a third-party transcription service. When you delete a video, we ask that service to delete its copy of the transcript too.

Card details go directly to our payment processor and never reach Verbatim. We receive only a record that a payment succeeded, the amount, and an identifier.

We do not sell or rent your information to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

We may disclose information if the law requires it. If that ever happens and we are permitted to tell you, we will.

If you send a copyright complaint or counter-notice, we may share it with the person on the other side of the complaint as required by the notice-and-takedown process.

Cookies

Verbatim uses the following cookies to provide the service:

  • A session cookie that keeps you signed in.
  • If you choose “Remember me” when signing in, a longer-lived cookie that remembers your login.
  • Short-lived signed cookies that authorise your browser to fetch the video files for a video you are allowed to watch. These expire within hours.

There are no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, and no analytics scripts on the application.

How long we keep things

Videos, transcripts, and generated images are kept until you delete the video or close your account. There is no automatic expiry — that is the point of the product.

When you delete a video, we delete its files from storage and ask our transcription service to delete its copy of the transcript. Deletion is permanent and is not reversible.

Purchase records held by Verbatim are deleted when you delete the related video or close your account. Our payment processor may retain its own records as described in its privacy policy and as required by law.

Raw delivery logs are automatically deleted within 90 days. Service providers may retain deleted data for a short period while deletion is processed or backups rotate out.

Your choices

  • See or correct your information — most of it is editable in your account. For anything else, ask us.
  • Delete a video — from the video’s page, at any time.
  • Delete your account — close it from your account settings, or email us and we will remove your account and its content.
  • Get a copy — ask, and we will send you what we hold about you.

Write to support@verbatim.video for any of these.

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. Verbatim does not respond differently to that setting because it does not track you across websites or use your activity for advertising.

Children

Verbatim is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us and we will remove it.

Security

Video files are stored privately and served only through signed, short-lived credentials issued after we verify that the requester is allowed to watch. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but access to your videos is not a matter of guessing a URL.

Changes

We may make minor corrections or clarifications by posting the updated policy and changing the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we collect or use your information, we will email account holders before it takes effect. Changes apply going forward; we will not use information already collected in a materially different way without your permission.
